Painting: Rollers Vs. Sprayguns

Posted on

There are very few exterior upgrades that are as cheap and effective as a simple paint job. Painting the outside of your commercial building is work that can be easily handled, even if you don't have any particular construction experience. Also, the tools and supplies necessary are accessible and affordable. You can buy everything you need from a home improvement or paint store for just a couple hundred dollars, and get started almost immediately. If you do want to paint the outside of your business property, you have a couple ways to go about it. This article specifically compares the main differences between painting with rollers and painting with spray guns.

Paint Rollers

Paint rollers are the more accessible and affordable of the two options. That being said, painting with rollers is probably going to take longer than using a spray gun. The only time that using rollers is quicker than a spray gun is if you have multiple people painting at once with rollers. Three or four people might be able to get paint on the wall quicker than just one person with a spray gun.

Another huge advantage of paint rollers is that they don't create such a big mess. Overspray is a major concern when using a spraygun and you also need to do very extensive masking off. You will still need to cover stuff and prep the area you are going to paint if you are going to use rollers, but you don't have to be nearly as thorough. Basically, if you are using a spraygun, you will spend more time on the prep work than painting.

Sprayguns

Some business owners are a little intimidated to use a spray gun. However, even if you don't own one or have no experience using one, you should not be too worried. Spray guns are cheap and easy to rent, and they are easy to operate. Most rentals will come with specific shut down, set up, and cleaning instructions. The actual painting is pretty self explanatory. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to get paint on your walls very quickly using a gun.

You can ultimately achieve the exact same look whether you use a spray gun or rollers. Most people will not be able to tell the difference between the two methods once the paint is applied and dried. In the end, it is largely a matter of personal preference, and whether or not you will be doing the work yourself, or if you're going to have a lot of helpers.
